Sukrit Trust honours 5000 students of Sehaj  Paath Competitions

 

New Delhi – October 4

With a vision of Spiritual, Academic and Professional Excellence of youth and armed with a logo of ‘Sword of Enlightenment’, Sukrit Trust, Ludhiana in collaboration with Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee organised a massive Students Conference at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib here today. Over 10,000 students from all over Punjab, Haryana, UP and New Delhi participated. The Trust also honoured about 5000 students who participated in Sehaj Paath Competitions.

The first prize of rupees one lac was shared jointly by Manpreet Kaur (Ludhiana), Harpuneet Kaur (Malerkotla), Jaswinder Kaur (Bathinda) and Maninder Kaur (Patiala). Sarandeep Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib), Sandip Kaur (Jagraon) and Gurleen Kaur (Jalandhar) won laptops for their excellent performance. Apart from this, 5 computers, cameras, ipods, watches, utensils and many other prizes were distributed on this occasion.

Sukrit has dedicated its third foundation day to five octogenarians and living legends by honouring them with titles like ‘Param Hans’ to Bhai Sahib Bhai Jeevan Singh ji (Akhand Kirtani Jatha), ‘Hain Virlae’ to Dr Jaswant Singh Neki, New Delhi (eminent psychiatrist), ‘Dhan Lekhari’ to S Saran Singh Kolkatta (IAS and former Chief Secretary, Bihar), ‘Sewa Rattan’ to S Harbhajan Singh, Ludhiana (eminent bibliophile) and ‘Suchaji Mata’ to Bibi Kulwant Kaur, New Delhi for their salient contributions to the society.

S Jaswinder Singh Khalsa, Chairman, Sukrit Trust stated that the aim of Sukrit is to uplift kirat (honest and hard work) by rejuvenating initiative, entrepreneurship and talent among the youth thereby saving them from drug abuse and other social evils.  For this purpose, the Trust is running five projects namely career guidance, coaching, vocational trainings, self help projects and placement services.

Chairman, Dharam Prachar Committee, DSGMC, S Tarsem Singh appreciated the efforts of Sukrit Trust and called for spreading the Sehaj Paath Movement in every household so that the people may live a holy happy and healthy life in the present era of stress and rat race for amassing more and more wealth.

Dr Brijpal singh, former, Professor of Economics, LBSNAA, Mussooree underlined the importance of ethics and values in our life. Emphasising Sri Guru Granth Sahib as an apostle of human integration, he called for becoming  spiritual souls instead of only being religious ones.

Senior advocate, Supreme Court of India, S Harvinder Singh Phoolka exhorted the massive gathering of students to re read history especially the recent tyrant period of third massacre and Maharaja Ranjit Singh and equip themselves with the power of knowledge and excel in every field through sheer dent of hard work and sincerity.

Eminent psychiatrist and writer, Dr Jaswant Singh Neki said that Gurbani enlightens our souls and exhorts us to be an active participant in social engineering.

The awards were given away by Bhai Devinder Singh Khalsa (Khannewale), Baba Sewa Singh (Kar Sewa, Khadur Sahib). An exhibition of creative gurmat accomplishments of students evinced keen interest of the students. As many as 30 new publications of the Sukrit Trust published in its third year were also released. Giani Inderjeet Singh, Durbi, S Harwinder Singh, Glasgow, S Apinder Singh, New Castle, UK also graced the occasion and addressed the gathering.

The five resolutions were also adopted on this occasion. The youth pledged to spread the Nishkam Kirtan movement, distribute harmoniums and tabla as gifts in every household, spreading the message of honest and hard work in studies and professions, increasing the subscription of The Sikh Review – a journal published from Kolkata since last half century, spreading book culture.

3000 students honoured by Sukrit Trust

 Amritsar, October 2 :

It was not an ordinary throng of devotees at Sri Harmandar Sahib today. It was a huge congregation of more than 3000 youth- mostly students from 6th standard to graduates and post graduates. Yet these students were also not ordinary ones. These were the students who completed at least one complete recitation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib i.e. Sehaj Paath commemorating the tercentenary of Gurta Gaddi Celebrations of this holy universal scripture.

According to Sr. Jaswinder Singh Khalsa, Chairman, Sukrit Trust – an NGO which is spearheading the campaign of Sehaj Paath since last two years, “Over 12,000 students participated in this movement. About 3000 students completed their Sehaj Path and participated in Shatabdi Gurbani Vichar Muhim competitions viz Sehaj Paath, Gurbani Kanth, Gurbani Vichar, Gurbani Bolchal and Gurbani Handwriting.

 

The competitions were held at 12 centres across the state during the months of August and September. All the students were honored here today by distinguished spiritual personalities of the community. Many students from other faiths also participated in the competition and were awarded mementoes, medals, computers, cameras etc. But more than the material prizes it is the spiritual bliss and peace of mind that these students have achieved that counts.

The overall first prize of five competitions worth rupees one lac was bagged jointly by two sisters, Amandeep Kaur (Class 6) and Harpreet Kaur (Class 12) of village Ghasitpur district Amritsar. The second prize, a laptop, went to S. Jatinder Singh also of Amritsar. While the other prizes including computers, cameras, mementoes, were bagged by 87 different participants. Ms Kulwinder Kaur of BA(Part I) from Ludhiana bagged the first prize in Gurbani Vichar as well as in Gurbani Kanth by memorizing 59 banies from Sri Guru Granth Sahib. Ms Sandeep Kaur of village Jarg district Ludhiana bagged first prize in Sehaj Paath while Ms Paramjeet Kaur, a student of eighth standard from Zira, Ferozepur got first prize in Gurbani handwriting competition.

The Sukrit Trust also held prayers at Sri Akal Takhat for celebrating year 2008 to 2018 as Decade of Spiritual Renaissance.  The students all dressed in white suites and blue turbans/dupattas were carrying placards with slogans like: ‘Only a bond of spirituality can link whole of humanity’;  ‘Sehaj Paath -- Puts glow in our Eyes, Smile on our Face and Spring in our Walk’; ‘Spirituality is beyond religious, cultural and national barriers’; ‘Sehaj Paath -- Dispels all fears and worries’. ‘Enjoy Everlasting Eternal Bliss’; ‘Let us spiritualize every moment, action and feeling’; ‘We are Spiritual beings  on human journey’;  ‘Spirituality helps in Academics’ etc.

The dignitaries who honoured the students included Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Giani Jaswinder Singh, Granthi, Sri Harmandir Sahib, Bhai Jeewan Singh of Akhand Kirtani Jatha, S. Avtar Singh, President, SGPC, Baba Sewa Singh, Kar Sewa Khadur Sahib, S. Harwinder Singh Phoolka, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court, S Jatinder Singh Jati Khalsa, UK, Dr. Amarjeet Kaur UK, Dr. Brijpal Singh Patiala, S Harkirat Singh of Satnam Sarab Kalyan Trust, S Kulwinder Singh of Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council, New Delhi and many other dignitaries.

Besides, the second annual report of the Trust, a new self help project of ‘fiftees’ and brochure of International Gurbani Vichar Competition etc were also released on this occasion. The first Sukrit Sewa Ratan Award – 2008 was bestowed on Bibi Kamalpreet Kaur of village Jarg, district Ludhiana for her all round best selfless services to the community. She was awarded a memento and a cheque of rupees 21,000.

 

Earlier Bhai Devinder Singh ji Khalsa khanewale, Prof. Paramjot Singh, Dean, Swar Samund Kirtan Academy, Mullanpur and Biba Ravinder Kaur performed devotional kirtan.

It is noteworthy that Sukrit is carrying out five projects namely Career Guidance, Coaching, Vocational Trainings, Self Help Projects and Placement Services. Bearing the logo of ‘Sword of Knowledge’, the prime aim of the Trust is to achieve Academic and Professional Excellence by inculcating habits of hard work and work culture among the youth thereby saving them from evils like drug abuse, apostasy etc. 

 

 

 

Sukrit Celebrates First Foundation Day

The first foundation day of Society for Uplifting Kirat by Rejuvenating Initiative, Entrepreneurship and Talent (SUKRIT) was celebrated as Kirat Prerna Samagam here yesterday. Over one thousand delegates from all over Punjab and Dehradoon (Utranchal) attended the grand celebrations.

 

The Chairman of SUKRIT, S Jaswinder Singh from Manchester, UK presented annual report of the organization. Former, Professor of Economics, LBS Academy of Administration, Mussurie Dr. Brij Pal Singh provided valuable career guidance especially to the civil services aspirants. Principal Prabhjot Kaur, Government College for Women, Ludhiana emphasized on promoting work culture in the society in order to save the youth from drug abuse, depression and related illnesses.

 

On this occasion, a website was also launched by Bhai Davinder Singh Khalsa Khannewale and S Pritpal Singh, President, Gurudwara Sri Dukhnivarn Sahib. The head priest of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Giani Rwail Singh released a book of poems 'Arshi Peenghan' authored by Dr. Arshdeep Singh – a second year student of MBBS. The book contains 35 poems on current issues. A Bookpalz publication, 'A Sikh in Greece' authored by Dr. Brij Pal Singh was also released on this occasion.

S. Rajpal Singh, Director, Shatabdi Gurbani Vichar Muhim, disclosed that over 8000 students have started sehaj path in connection with the 300 year celebrations of Ist installation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

 

Prof Paramjot Singh from Mullanpur, enthralled the audience with melodious devotional singing on rejuvenating work culture.

‘DUUR KINARE’ CD released
Dr. Upinderjit Kaur, Minister for Higher Education, Punjab released a documentary Shores Far Away produced by IntegriTV, in collaboration with SUKRIT At Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana on September 14, 2007 It is the story of those who have experienced the shadowy and dangerous process of illegal emigration. The documentary intends to educate youth about the dangers of illegal emigration and the fact that those who emigrate illegally or without educational qualifications are likely to be exploited and humiliated abroad.

Panel Discussion at Govt. College for Women
A Panel Discussion on the topics ‘How To Revive Work Culture In Punjab’, ‘Socials Evils’ and ‘How To Use Leisure Time’ was arranged by Commerce Society in collaboration with Sukrit. Dr. Surinderbir Singh, Retd. Principal, Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, Dr. Prem Kumar, Principal Aurbindo College, Ludhiana, Principal Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur, Dr. (Mrs.) Sarabjot Kaur and Mrs. Harjeet Kaur and Dr. Rakesh from Govt. College for Women, Ludhiana were the expert Panel members.
