Pau Green Diwali Rally
Pau Green Diwali Rally 500 University students pledge for green Diwali Youngsters are often blamed for spoiling the festival spirit by indulging in anti-social and disruptive activities. But a group of PAU and GADVASU students initiated a pledge campaign to celebrate green Diwali this year. From the last one week these young Turks have been moving door to door in the campus hostels convincing their peers not to burst crackers this year.
They received an overwhelming response. More than 500 students not only signed the campaign rather many of them volunteered to spread the message in their respective villages too. Motivated and guided by the NGOs like Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle, Sukrit Trust, EcoSikh (USA), Eclairs, EduFriends etc. the students were enthusiastic to play proactive role. The group of leading students includes Kunal, Ramandeep Singh, Alka, Prabhjot Singla, Jaswinder Singh, Jagtar Singh, Manjeet Kaur. Enthusiastic students also raised slogans like – burst happiness not crackers; burn evil in you not crackers; plant trees and light nature — don’t use crackers and burst nature; Diwali – kion pollute kar dali. One of the enthusiastic student activists, Ms Prabhjot Singla, said that she also took this campaign to her home town Nabha, interacted with elders as well as kids and got more than 180 signatures pledging for green Diwali. Manpreet Kaur, an MSc student, stated that instead of spending money on crackers they will help poor students with books and stationary items.
Karminder Bir Kaur from GADVASU, commented why not burn a thousand rupee note instead of bursting the crackers and spoiling the environment. ‘Green Diwali will also help in reducing the fire accidents and save precious lives.
